What is a conduit body?

A conduit body is specifically designed as an access point within a conduit system. It allows for maintenance and inspection of the electrical or communication wiring that runs through the conduit, facilitating easier access to these systems without needing to disassemble the entire conduit installation.

Conduit bodies serve several functions: they can change the direction of the conduit run, provide space for fittings and connections, and enable the pulling of wires through the conduit without the stress of tight bends. Their design usually includes openings for connecting to other sections of conduit, making them integral to the overall functionality and accessibility of electrical systems.

In contrast, while a junction box and a pull box may share some characteristics with conduit bodies, they are intended for different purposes. A junction box is primarily used as a point where wires are spliced or connected, whereas a pull box is a larger enclosure that makes it easier to pull wires through longer runs of conduit. A device box typically houses switches, outlets, or other devices but does not serve the same function as a conduit body in terms of access and maintenance of conduit systems.
