Fundamental Code Calculations Practice Test

The type of box specifically designed for making splices in a run of conduit without delivering power directly to any devices is known as a junction box. Junction boxes are used to house connections between electrical wires and are essential for providing a safe and organized way to make these connections. They protect splices and terminations and prevent accidental contact with the live conductors, ensuring safety and compliance with electrical codes.

In a junction box, multiple wires can be joined together, allowing for future modifications in the system without affecting the overall structure of the conduits. This type of box is distinct from other types like device boxes, which are designed to provide a means for connecting devices directly, or pull boxes, which facilitate the pulling of wires through the conduit. An octagon box is typically used for light fixtures and may not be suited for splicing purposes. Junction boxes, therefore, provide both functionality in wire management and a means to ensure safety in electrical installations.
